Influence of Tolerance Stack-Up on Dynamics of Zero Degree of Freedom Parallelogram Configurations

Abstract

It is well known fact that the performance variation occurs due to the variations in link tolerances. Undesirable vibrations, reduction of fatigue life and degradation of performance of the mechanism are promulgated via tolerances and joint clearances. Additional and uncontrollable degrees of freedom are the prime sources of error. The present paper shows the cause and effect relationship of tolerance stack-up on a five bar parallelogram mechanism. Tolerance stack-up mainly sub-grouped as link dimension tolerance and joint clearance. A case study of three spindle cleaner mechanism is demonstrated. Link dimension tolerance and joint clearance are as per manufacturing standards to quantify the variations. Impact force is developed at the clearance joint. Elastic deformation takes place at the collision points generating a normal force. Driving torque, amount of clearance are input parameter for the analysis and contact stiffness is evaluated using algebraic equations. Contact stiffness between the joint plays very significant role to maintain continuous contact between two bodies. The results of function generation and contact impact forces at the clearance joints are compared with ideal joint five bar parallelogram mechanism.

Abstract

In this study, an effective non-contact technique for the measurement of moving vehicle is reported. A theoretical model for the electrostatic induction current generated due to a change in the electrical capacitance between a given electrode and vehicle is proposed. This model effectively explains the behavior of the shape of the electrostatic induction current flowing through the measurement electrode.
